AUG. 30 – CHECK THE KIND OF FRIENDS YOU KEEP

“Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man, thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.”

PROVERBS 22:24-25

You have to understand that our associations greatly affect our moods. Before I got married over fifteen years ago, I used to like a lot of friends. Even when I was coming up as a young minister, I always had friends I visited. Then after I got married, I realized that my wife is the direct opposite. In fact, since we got married, I have never seen her or heard her saying she is going to visit a friend.

Later, I realized that some of the negative emotions I expressed most of the time were learned from friends. If you are prone to anger, the best person you need to associate yourself with should be someone who is calm and prayerful. You will consciously or unconsciously learn his or her ways of handling emotions. God used my wife to teach me a lot of things about patience and calmness. Just as you can adopt the ways of hottempered people by associating with them, you can equally learn the ways of calm-tempered people by associating with them. So you need to be mindful of the associations you keep.

PRAYER:

Pray and ask God to deliver you from wrong associations……
