OCT. 5 – HUMBLE YOURSELF

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
James 4:10 (NIV)

David prayed, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24, NIV). If you change your attitude, God can change your destiny. How do you react when you get angry? The Bible instructs, “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry” (James 1:19, NIV).

Make sure you think before you act. Let humility be your constant prayer. Always ask, “Lord, clothe me with the mantle of humility. Deliver me from pride. I don’t want to harbor pride in any area of my life. Lord, set me free from pride and saturate me with a spirit of humility, allowing me to walk in meekness.”

Humility can take you far in life; it multiplies grace upon you. As 1 Peter 5:5 says, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” What is humility? It’s knowing you are right, yet still choosing to say, “I’m sorry.” You disarm someone’s ego when you apologize even though you were right. Many arguments at home could be resolved if someone humbled themselves and apologized. Countless divorce cases could have been avoided with a simple, “I’m sorry for what I did.” That’s what humility looks like.

PRAYER:
Pray and ask God to deliver you from the spirit of pride…
