“And it came to pass, when they had come into Samaria, that Elisha said, ‘Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see.’ And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw…” – 2 Kings 6:20
The church saw Saul as a murderer, but Jesus saw him as a future writer of the New Testament. Others questioned, “Why choose a murderer?” … because they couldn’t see what Jesus saw. This is why we must always pray and ask God to help us see things the way He does.
There was a time I fasted and went to preach, asking God to anoint me with power. But when I arrived, the meeting felt dry, and the Holy Spirit didn’t move. I began to wonder why, and the Lord said to me, “Your fasting cannot bribe Me to use you.” There is nothing wrong with fasting, but God wants us to understand that fasting doesn’t “earn” us His power or favor.
The way we see things can impact us, even to the point where we believe that fasting can “compel” God. Once, I heard an evangelist admit that he hadn’t fasted for three days, yet God used him mightily during his program. This shows that God doesn’t use us because we fast; He uses us out of His grace and mercy. Fasting helps to bring our bodies under control and aligns our minds with God’s will, but it isn’t a transaction for His power.
PRAYER:
Lord, I pray once more, help me to see things the way You see them…
