The purity of heart establishes a reliable communication link with God. As long as you live in sin, you are out of touch with God. When you are separated from God, do not expect Him to answer your prayers. I want you to know that sin that has not been confessed can hinder your prayers; it builds a wall between you and God. If you think there is pleasure in committing sin, let me also inform you that there are consequences that accompany sin.
You must understand that prayer can only be effective when sin is absent. You cannot walk in conscious sin and expect that God will answer your prayers. That is why it is very important to confess every sin in your life before you come to God in prayer. Sin is like leprosy; it defiles you and makes you impotent. Never walk in sin; make sure that you are always standing right with God. It takes a pure heart to come to the presence of God. Preparing your heart in purity is the first step you need to take for God to answer your prayers. The only prayer of a sinner that gets God’s attention is the prayer for repentance. That is why many Christians pray and still remain in oppression because anytime God stretches His hand to bless them, their sins turn Him off.
