“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” — ISAIAH 59:2
The purity of heart establishes a reliable communication link with God. As long as you live in sin, you are out of touch with God. When you are separated from God, do not expect Him to answer your prayers. Understand that unconfessed sin can hinder your prayers; it builds a wall between you and God. If you think there is pleasure in committing sin, let me also inform you that there are consequences that accompany it.
You must understand that prayer can only be effective when sin is absent. You cannot walk in conscious sin and expect God to answer your prayers. This is why it is crucial to confess every sin in your life before you come to God in prayer. Sin is like leprosy; it defiles you and makes you spiritually weak. Never walk in sin; ensure that you are always standing right with God. It takes a pure heart to come into the presence of God. Preparing your heart in purity is the first step for God to answer your prayers. The only prayer of a sinner that gets God’s attention is the prayer for repentance. This is why many Christians pray and still remain in oppression; whenever God stretches His hand to bless them, their sins turn Him away.
