OCT. 24 – KNOW CHRIST FOR YOURSELF

“And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi:  and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, who do men say that I am?”

MARK 8:27

When Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do men say I am?” The disciples in response said, “Some say you are Elijah” others also said, “You are Jeremiah”. I checked one time to find out why Jesus was often referred to as Elijah by some people and I discovered that there were some similarities between the miracles Jesus did and that of Elijah. For instance, Jesus controlled nature- he walked on the sea (Matt. 14:22-33) and He also rebuked the wind (Mark 4:39). Elijah also controlled nature- he could stop rain from falling for three and half years (1 Kings 17:1). Jesus multiplied loaves of bread (Matt. 14:13-21). Elijah too went to a widow’s house and there was no shortage of cake (1 Kings 17:13). So when the people saw the miracles Jesus was doing, they concluded that it was Elijah who had come back. This is why many of us always miss God when he is doing a new thing. Remember this: God is not a photocopying machine, He is an expert in doing new things. One of the reasons the Pharisees missed Jesus was that they had never seen His kind before and so they could choose to say, “As for Moses, we know him”. I pray that from today, you will know Christ for yourself.
